What is old church?
The Old Church is a nonprofit, non-religious concert hall and all-ages event venue with a rich history and a lively 21st century identity. Constructed in 1882, it is the oldest church building in downtown Portland and is located on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1967, committed citizens banded together to purchase and save this heritage building from demolition. Our dual mission is to conserve and celebrate the building’s historic architecture and make music and arts programs that improve the cultural life of their community. Through our programming and operations, we are dedicated to being a cultural living area available to all, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, class, disability status, geography, age and other forms of bias. Diversity, equity and inclusion are fundamental values as we attempt to nurture motivated and innovative community.
We encourage you to read more about our history, but we’re most excited about our future and present. The Old Church is run by a creative and committed team and a passionate board of supervisors. With contributions from supporters like you, we are able to give free music, culture and community-building programs for kids and adults — all in a exceptional performance venue in the center of the city.
